Why won't my Lochinvar boiler ignite?

Ignition failures are one of the most common Lochinvar service calls. The Knight and CREST units use a direct spark ignition system with a flame sensor, and faults in either can prevent the boiler from firing. Common causes include a dirty or degraded flame sensor (which can't confirm flame even when the burner lights), a blocked inlet screen reducing air flow, a gas pressure issue, or a control board fault. Lochinvar's fault code display gives a starting point — codes like E01 (ignition failure), E05 (blocked flue), or E28 (gas valve fault) all point in different diagnostic directions.

"Service required" alerts and blocked diagnostic codes are common on units that haven't been serviced regularly. Some are straightforward to clear once the underlying cause is addressed — blocked condensate drains, scaling in the heat exchanger, or a combustion air issue.
